Plot Summary: The film follows the small town of Plymouth, Massachusetts, terrorized by a killer in a John Carver mask during the Thanksgiving holiday. The chaos begins with a deadly stampede at the superstore RightMart, resulting in multiple fatalities. A year later, the killer returns, targeting those involved in the previous year’s riot. As the body count rises, the community is thrown into turmoil, leading to a climactic confrontation between Jessica and the killer.
Production: The film originated from Eli Roth’s fictitious trailer in Grindhouse (2007). Over the years, Roth and Jeff Rendell developed the concept into a feature-length film. In January 2023, Spyglass Media Group announced the production, with Roth stepping away from another project to direct Thanksgiving. Filming took place in Toronto and Hamilton, Ontario, from March 13 to May 5, 2023.
Release: Thanksgiving was theatrically released in the United States by TriStar Pictures on November 17, 2023. It later became available on digital platforms on December 19, 2023, with a Blu-ray and DVD release on January 30, 2024. The film began streaming on Netflix on February 17, 2024.
Reception: The film received generally positive reviews from critics and grossed $46.5 million worldwide. It opened alongside other major releases and managed to perform steadily at the box office. A sequel is currently in development.
